From the preface: "This is the second edition of my first essays in prose, now assembled under a common title. Gathering them together and correcting only one or more naive phrase, I have curtailed in the language some more vivid edge; but I did not touch the general outline of the composition, which was sacred to me, although it was defective and inexperienced .... The four books, which merged in this one, represent for me the dawn of literary life, the joy of to compose, the rush to publish, the age to win ... "
With two chapters on Bussaco. In The Catre of the Bishop are inserted two letters of Pimentel to Camilo and one of Camilo to Alberto Pimentel.
Specimens with signs of handling on spines, in good general condition.
