Going beyond this simplistic opposition and based on detailed investigation Norman Davies states that the conflict that has raged in Europe it was actually dominated by two evil forces, not just one. In this perspective, the outcome of the war was ambiguous, in that Eastern Europe only replaced one dictatorial regime with another, a situation that Churchill described perfectly when he coined the expression "iron curtain" to designate the new reality of Eastern Europe. . Likewise, according to the author, the victory of the Allies was compromised in moral terms by its association with the Stalinist regime.
