LIBRO DE LA PRIMERA NAVEGACION (Cristovão Colombo)
LIBRO DE LA PRIMERA NAVEGACION (Cristovão Colombo)

REF.34717
Year 1984

Madrid; Testimonio Editorial Company; In-4th of 2 volumes; Illustrated; Bound

Facsimile edition with a faithful reproduction of the original manuscript, currently preserved in the National Library of Spain. The Libro de la Primera Navegación is a work that brings together the logbooks of Christopher Columbus during his first voyage to the American continent in 1492. These records detail the events of the crossing, including geographical discoveries, interactions with indigenous peoples and the navigator's personal observations. Although Columbus's original diary has been lost, its contents have been preserved thanks to the transcription made by Bartolomé de las Casas, who used the text as the basis for his own narratives. This facsimile is a limited edition of 700 numbered copies, each accompanied by a notarial certificate. The binding was carefully crafted in worked leather, reflecting the elegance and respect for the historical context of the work. The edition includes a complementary study volume, with texts by Manuel Alvar and Francisco Morales Padrón, which transcribe and analyze the historical content of the work. Copies in good general condition.

MANUSCRITO DEL LIBRO COPIADOR DE CRISTOBAL COLON

REF.34716
Year 1989

Madrid; Testimonio Editorial Company; In-4th of 3 volumes; Bound

Facsimile edition created as part of the celebrations of the 5th Centenary of Columbus' arrival on the American continent. The work is composed of a facsimile of the original manuscript with a leather binding imitating the original, numbered and signed. It presents a magnificent reproduction quality. The two volumes that accompany the work present a detailed transcription carried out by Antonio Rumeu de Armas, with the collaboration of Concepción de la Fuente Cobos and María Dolores Alonso Roldán, and a historical-critical study that contextualizes the letters and their importance for the history of Columbus's voyages. Fascinating document containing transcriptions of nine letters attributed to Christopher Columbus. These letters, supposedly sent to the Catholic Monarchs, narrate events related to their voyages of discovery to the Indies. The manuscript was discovered in 1985 in Tarragona, Spain, and is believed to have been written by an anonymous scribe in the late 16th century. The content includes letters detailing the challenges and successes of Columbus' expeditions, seven of which were previously unknown. This manuscript is considered one of the most important finds related to Columbus's voyages in the 20th century. Copy of the facsimile in good condition, one of the accompanying books has several highlights in fluorescent pen.

Diogo do Couto
REF.33001
Year 1790

Lisbon; Office of the Royal Academy of Sciences; In-8th of IV(2)161(1) and 110 pages; Brocade

A rare work in which Couto criticizes the abuses and evils that afflicted the government of Portuguese India at the beginning of the 17th century. This edition has a numbering error on the preliminary pages numbered from 3 onwards due to a typographical error. António Caetano do Amaral, in the introduction to this first printed edition, reveals that the original manuscript had been acquired by the Academy. Diogo do Couto, driven by zeal for the public good, had composed the book entitled “Practical Soldier.” However, the original was stolen before it was perfected and reached this realm without the author's name. Years later, Couto himself reformed the work, almost recreating it. Amaral highlights the importance of continuing the search for more correct manuscripts to improve future editions and preserve the author's genuine composition. Copy with protection in kraft paper core with occasional acidity peaks, with the pages remaining unopened.
