Published in the same year as «Ouolof» and «Doze Nós numa Corda», it forms part of the group of works which the poet preferred to describe as «poems changed into Portuguese», an expression reflecting his conception of translation as a process of poetic recreation.

It brings together texts from different indigenous traditions of the Americas, connected with mythical, ritual and cosmogonic worlds. These versions occupy a particular place in Herberto Helder's work, in which translation is closely related to his own poetic practice. A work of interest in the context of the reception of non-European poetics in contemporary Portuguese literature.
