Ana de Castro Osório

REF.36846

Year s/d 1921

1stEdition

Lisbon; Edições Lusitânia; In-8.º of 111(3) pages; Illustrated; Softcover.

First edition of this uncommon work by Ana de Castro Osório (1872–1935), a writer, educator and one of the most significant figures in Portuguese children's literature. Belonging to her literary production for young readers, the work reflects the author's concern with their cultural and moral education, combining entertainment with the transmission of values, customs and traditions.

Illustrated with plates by Leal da Câmara, a distinguished Portuguese caricaturist and graphic artist, whose contribution gives the edition particular artistic and bibliographical interest. An uncommon work on the antiquarian book market, representative of the renewal of Portuguese children's literature during the early decades of the twentieth century.

Copy with minor losses to the original wrappers; contents in good condition. Enhanced by an author's presentation inscription.
