The work follows the amorous and sexual experiences of a young student, belonging to the tradition of the 18th-century English libertine novel, characterised by its frank depiction of amorous relationships and its satirical observation of social customs and behaviour.

Translated by Belisário Praxedes. Published in Arcádia's «Curiosa» series, it forms part of the group of classics of erotic literature issued in Portugal by the publishing house during the 1970s.

Third edition of this Portuguese translation of «La Religieuse», a novel written by Diderot around 1760 and published posthumously in book form in 1796. The work originated in a literary hoax devised by Diderot and several friends involving the Marquis de Croismare, subsequently developing into one of the author's best-known narratives. Through the memoirs of Suzanne Simonin, a young woman forced by her family to take religious vows against her will, Diderot denounces enforced enclosure, abuses within convent life and the consequences of the repression of individual freedom.

Translated by João Gaspar Simões. A particularly representative work of Diderot's Enlightenment thought, combining criticism of religious institutions, a defence of individual freedom and a penetrating psychological portrayal of its protagonist.

First Portuguese edition of «Les Onze Mille Verges ou les Amours d’un Hospodar», an erotic novel by Guillaume Apollinaire, clandestinely published in Paris in 1907 under the initials «G. A.». The narrative follows the adventures of the Romanian prince Mony Vibescu on a journey marked by excess, eroticism, black humour and transgression, and is one of the most celebrated and provocative works of early 20th-century French erotic literature.

Translated by Belissário Praxedes, with a preface by João Costa. Published in October 1971 in the «Biblioteca Arcádia — Clássicos» series, this first Portuguese translation bears on its cover the description «the accursed book of the accursed poet», evoking both the clandestine character of the original work and the provocative nature of Apollinaire's writing.

The novel reflects Jouve's engagement with psychoanalysis and his exploration of the tensions between eroticism and spirituality, central themes throughout his writing.

Translated by Ângela Sarmento. A significant novel in the literary renewal undertaken by Jouve from 1925 onwards, at the beginning of what the author himself regarded as a new phase of his work.
