“(...) Here the object of analysis is not reduced to institutional religiosity, but to the anthropological dimension of the system of meaning, which transcends individuals. Thus religion is based on the capacity of the human person to transcend his or her biological nature by constructing an articulated set of objective and morally binding meanings. They are social and individualized processes that lead to the construction of the Self (...) This book therefore welcomes a diverse set of perspectives, corresponding to each author`s view of the theme assigned to him, which he could freely express. From the preliminary warning: “In all of our country there is the remarkable tower of the Clerigos do Porto, built on top of the sidewalk of Natividade, today the street that the church and tower gave their name to. This church and tower were built at the expense of the clergy, by a resolution taken on March 31, 1731 (...) Abroad, in addition to the famous tower of the Clerigos of this city, it is also named the golden church of Porto; it is that of the extinct Franciscans, to which foreigners, mainly English, call it a golden church, due to the great gilt carving that adorns and embellishes this sumptuous Gothic church, finished in 1457 (...) ”.
