It contains facsimile reproduction of the 7 existing maps in the National Library in Paris and the 15 existing ones in the British Museum in London. The work is the first hydrographic and surveying work of the Red Sea ports, carried out in 1541, during the voyage from the Armada of Estevão da Gama, from Goa to Suez, and was reproduced until around the year 1700. Scripts by D. João de Castro are considered, according to Fontoura da Costa, one of the greatest Portuguese scientific monuments of all time.
