First edition, of this important work of the beginnings of the Portuguese discoveries. Gaspar Correia went to India in 1512 and returned to Portugal where he remained until 1529. He returned to the East on a second voyage in which he set out to write a history of India and its conquest, then starting a journey through the Portuguese dominions to gather information there . He died near the year 1561.
Fourth edition: Book I - Containing the actions of Vasco da Gama, Pedralvares Cabral, João da Nova, Francisco de Alboquerque, Vicente Sodré, Duarte Pacheco, Lopo Soares, Manuel Telles, and Francisco D`Almeida. Legend of 13 years, from the first discovery of India to the year 1510, (Tome I - parts I and II); Book II - In which the famous deeds of D`Affonso D`Alboquerque, Lopo Soares, Diogo Lopes de Sequeira, Duarte de Menezes, Vasco da Gama Visorey, and D. Anrique de Menezes are recounted. Legend of 17 years completed in the year 1526. (Volume II - parts I and II); Book III - Which account of the feats of Pero Mascarenhas and Lopo Vaz Sampayo, and Nuno da Cunha. In which will be 17 years. (Volume III - parts I and II); Book IV - The fourth part of the Chronicle of the feytos that will happen in India from the year 1538 to the year 1550, in which will reside six governors. (D. Rare and sought after work, profusely illustrated with engravings and maps, some of them unfoldable.
Copies with half-buckle binding with some handling damage. MOLE of the first volume with a damp spot without affecting the reading of the text. Remaining kernel in good condition.
